Zomato introduces FOOD RESCUE to cut wastage and offer cancelled orders at lower prices

NewsZomato, the popular food delivery app, has introduced a new feature aimed at reducing food waste by offering cancelled orders at significantly lower prices. The 'Food Rescue' initiative comes in response to the issue of approximately 4 lakh orders being cancelled every month.
Through this new feature, cancelled orders can be purchased at a discounted rate, allowing customers to enjoy a meal while helping to prevent food wastage. Zomato launched this program to address the growing concern of food being thrown away despite no-refund policies.
Cancelled orders will now be made available to nearby customers, who can purchase them at a great discount. The food will be delivered in its original, untampered packaging and arrive within minutes, as explained.
The new feature will only offer cancelled orders for a limited time. "To maintain freshness, the option to claim an order will be available for just a few minutes," Zomato explained in its blog post.
Not all orders will qualify for 'Food Rescue'. "Orders with items that are sensitive to temperature or distance, such as ice creams, shakes, smoothies, and certain perishable goods, will not be eligible for the program," the blog added.
Zomato highlights that despite their no-refund cancellation policy, around 4 lakh orders are still cancelled each month, making this initiative a welcome move. The feature will also ensure that vegetarian customers only receive vegetarian orders.
