Department of Telecommunications partnered with WhatsApp to strengthen efforts against digital scams
WhatsApp joins with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to bolster efforts against digital scams and misuse of telecom resources in an effort to safeguard citizens from growing cyber risks.
Through this partnership, Meta's "Scam Se Bacho" campaign is expanded, with an emphasis on educating people on how to recognize and report questionable calls and messages.
A citizen-centric platform called "Sanchar Saathi" has been developed by the Department of Telecommunications, or DoT, to support this initiative. It can be accessed via a mobile app and at sancharsaathi.gov.in.
The program gives users the ability to check their mobile connections, report suspected fraudulent calls and messages, and ban or track stolen or lost mobile phones.
More than 550 institutions, including banks and law enforcement agencies, receive information regarding potential misuse of telecom resources through DoT's Digital Intelligence Platform, or DIP.
Sanchar Mitras, field units, telecom service providers (TSPs), and DoT officials will all participate in train-the-trainer workshops as part of the effort.
In order to expand Sanchar Saathi's reach, WhatsApp will also collaborate with DoT to investigate ways to develop citizen-centric services for Sanchar Saathi initiatives via the WhatsApp platform.
