India becomes the first team to secure a semifinal spot at the ICC Cricket World Cup

With a 302-run victory against Sri Lanka on Thursday, India became the first side to book a semifinal position in the ICC Cricket World Cup thanks to a masterful spell bowled by Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah. As Sri Lanka lost its first four wickets for just three runs in 19 deliveries, Siraj claimed three wickets for zero in the opening seven balls.

Then, in his opening performance, Mohammed Shami claimed four wickets in three overs, helping Sri Lanka be bowled out for 55 runs in 19.4 overs. Shami collected his second five-wicket haul of the competition with a final score of 5-18 in five overs. In seven overs, Siraj concluded with a 3-16 score.

After seven games, India had a perfect record and topped the points table, becoming the only undefeated team in the competition. Unless it plays archrival Pakistan in the last four, in which case the match will be played in Kolkata on November 16, it will play its semifinal at the same location on November 15.
