Google Maps is rolling out a major update to enhance urban navigation, with new features launching next month aimed at improving the driving experience. According to The Verge, this update will highlight the correct lane for upcoming turns and show critical details like crosswalks, traffic signs, and lane restrictions.
Starting in November, this feature will be available in 30 metropolitan areas across the United States on both Android and iOS devices. The upgrade is designed to reduce the stress of navigating unfamiliar roads, complementing existing tools such as lane guidance and 3D route visualization.
This week, users can expect updates that enhance the visibility of their destination, pinpoint building entrances, and offer details on nearby parking options. The app will also provide reminders for saved parking spots and walking directions to building entrances, as reported by The Verge.
To enhance driver support, Google Maps is expanding its reporting features to cover adverse weather conditions. This addition will notify users about hazards like low visibility, fog, snow, unplowed roads, and flooding, promoting safer travel during challenging weather. Alongside these navigation updates, Google is also incorporating more AI-driven features into the app to help users discover new destinations.
