Eighth edition of Vizag Navy Marathon received an overwhelming response in the city with the enthusiastic participation of over 12,000 participants

News EventThe city responded overwhelmingly well to the eighth edition of the "Vizag Navy Marathon." Around 12,000 runners excitedly participated in the race along the picturesque length of Beach Road, creating a sea of people on the roadway. The programme drew attendees from a variety of groups, including women, old citizens, children, youth, and navy personnel from across India and outside. Many residents and their families have been there since the early hours of the morning to watch the race. From the starting line of the run track, participants snapped photographs and shared them on social media.
Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, the Flag Officer and Commanding in Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, officially opened the 42.2 kilometre marathon, which attracted over 500 participants. With almost 1,600 participants, Vice Admiral G. Srinivasan, Director General Naval Projects (DGNP Vizag), gave the start of the 21.1 kilometre half marathon. The 10km race drew over 2,700 participants, and Commissioner of Police A. Ravi Shankar gave the start signal. Over 7,000 runners participated in the five-kilometer race, which was started by Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena, Chief of Staff of ENC.

The marathon races began at The Park Hotel Circle on RK Beach, proceeded towards the Naval Coastal Battery, and made a U-turn close to the Kalimata temple. MGM Park was the end line for the 5K run. Participants in the run towards INS Kalinga included runners from several racing categories. Half marathoners made a U-turn near Gayatri College in Rushikonda, while 10K runners did so close to Tenneti Park. Near Cheppala Uppada, which is close to INS Kalinga, the full marathon runners made a U-turn. Every race has concluded at VMRDA's MGM Park.
In the men's open division, the winners of the full marathon, half marathon, and 10-kilometer run were Sikandar Tadakhe (2 hours and 30 minutes), Deepak Kumbhar (1 hour and 06 minutes), and Sonu Kushwa (31 minutes). In the women's division, the winners of the full marathon, half marathon, and 10 km races were Aasa TP (3h 08 min), Lilian Rutto (1h 24 min), and Lanka Mery Grace (44 min).
Hydration and refreshment stations were set up at various locations along the Beach Road stretch for the benefit of the runners. Numerous bystanders encouraged the runners at several points along the course.
