News EventThe Chennai wellness Department will launch an eight-kilometer "health walk" project on November 4. Benches and flora are being added to the walking route, which will start and finish at Dr. Muthulakshmi Park in Adyar and run along Beach Road, Besant Avenue Road, and the Olcott School Junction. In an attempt to promote walking, Health Minister Ma. Subramanian told the Assembly that eight kilometres of walking tracks will be built in each of Tamil Nadu's 38 districts. He got the idea for this initiative from an eight-kilometer walking track he had seen while on an official visit to Tokyo. M.K. Stalin, the chief minister, would introduce the programme in Chennai and 37 other districts on November 4.
The Minister described the Tokyo walking route on Wednesday, stating that it had seats, trees, and signs per km that highlighted the advantages of walking. Tamil Nadu's district heads were all putting the concept into practise. According to him, the programme focused on roads with lower traffic volumes across all districts.
The section in Chennai was picked last month by the Minister, the Health Secretary, and the Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation. The effort to make the stretch better is moving quickly. Among them is greenery. After examining the section, he informed reporters, "The stretch is also being repaired to ensure there are no potholes and uneven surfaces."
Walkers might bring their dogs along, and benches would be placed along the route for them to relax. The start of the "health walk" track is going to be close to Dr. Muthulakshmi Park, where there will also be a welcome arch. According to the Minister, it will travel via Second and Third Avenues, Church Road, Beach Road, Besant Avenue Road, Fifth Avenue, and Olcott School before making a U-turn and returning to the original location. "Eight kilometres of walking every day is equivalent to 10,000 steps. For the sake of your health, do this, he said. In order to allow people to stroll freely and fearlessly, Mr Subramanian stated that the Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) has stated that heavy vehicles will not be permitted on this stretch daily from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m.
He added that the initiative's goal was to raise public awareness of the value of walking every day and that walkers associations from the GCC will be invited to participate in the launch, along with celebrities. He stated, "Health officers will set up medical camps in these health walk stretches on the first Sunday of every month to check for blood pressure and blood sugar levels." The Health Department would hold 1,000 monsoon special medical camps on Sundays for ten weeks starting on October 29.
