ChatGPT has launched a new Advanced Voice Mode specifically for users on macOS and desktop platforms

ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode has now been introduced for macOS and desktop users, allowing you to communicate with the AI simply by speaking—no need for typing! Initially available only for mobile users on Plus and Teams plans, this enhanced feature enables you to provide voice commands and receive responses from ChatGPT in a natural, almost human-like tone. It has also improved its ability to understand various accents, resulting in smoother and quicker interactions. To use Advanced Voice on desktop, you will need to download the latest version of the app.

Advanced Voice Mode goes beyond simple voice recognition; it provides an enhanced voice interaction experience that sounds natural and is capable of conveying emotions, modulating tone, and emphasizing specific words for a more lifelike quality. OpenAI has introduced five new voices for ChatGPT: Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce, and Vale, which join the previously available voices Breeze, Juniper, Cove, and Ember. These additions are designed to foster a more engaging and natural dialogue, contributing to the expanding selection of voice profiles that make AI conversations feel increasingly personal. The new voice options draw inspiration from nature, reflecting OpenAI's goal of ensuring that interactions feel smooth, comfortable, and familiar.

To utilize Advanced Voice Mode on desktop, users only need to activate the voice feature within the ChatGPT app. After enabling it, they can interact with ChatGPT using voice input, and the AI will respond verbally. This mode also introduces visual enhancements, swapping the static black dots previously used during voice interactions for a dynamic blue sphere that reacts in real-time, making the interactions visually more engaging.

This new voice feature is included in a wider range of customization options available to users. With "Custom Instructions," users can tailor ChatGPT’s responses to better fit their preferences or requirements. Furthermore, the Memory feature enables ChatGPT to retain user interactions across different sessions, enhancing the personalization of responses over time, as the AI draws on previous conversations to ensure greater relevance.
