UIDAI tests new Aadhaar mobile application to verify identity of people

The new Aadhaar mobile application, which the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has started testing, eliminates the need for photocopies of the Aadhaar card to be given at hotel desks, airport counters, or retail establishments by allowing users to verify their identity by scanning a QR code and exposing their face to the phone's camera.

The interface of the new app, which has not yet been made available to the general public, is cleaner. Businesses and government offices will display a QR code when they need to verify a customer.

The Aadhaar bearer uses the app to scan that code, selects which data to share, and then performs a brief face-recognition scan without a physical card or printouts.

According to UIDAI, users have more control over their personal information because data is only transferred with their agreement.

By bringing the feature straight to people' phones, the new app allows them to initiate the process on their own and only disclose the information needed for each transaction. UIDAI seeks to reduce bureaucracy, prevent identity theft, and improve the use of digital public infrastructure.

People have more control over their personal information, according to UIDAI, since data is only transferred with the user's agreement.

With the help of the new software, users may now access the function on their phones, initiating the process themselves and sharing only the information needed for each transaction. Reduced paperwork, reduced identity fraud, and improved use of digital public infrastructure are the goals of UIDAI.
