In a move that blends lifestyle and sporting trends, online food delivery service Swiggy Ltd. revealed that it owns the Mumbai squad in the World Pickleball League (WPBL).
Former Indian tennis players Gaurav Natekar and Arati Ponnappa Natekar co-founded the WPBL, which is the country's first international franchise-based pickleball league. The first season will take place in Mumbai from January 24 to February 2, 2025.
Pickleball is a rapidly expanding sport around the world that has grown in popularity due to its accessibility and attraction to people of all ages. Swiggy's approach to establishing creative connections with customers is emphasized by this acquisition.
The Chennai team, which is owned by actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu, was announced first, followed by Swiggy's Mumbai franchise. Mumbai's hosting of the league's inaugural event gives Swiggy's club a chance to excel domestically.
By combining exciting sports with a lively lifestyle, the WPBL model seeks to bring communities together via their shared passion for pickleball. The league offers spectators an exciting experience with six clubs vying for the title.
