Madras Art Weekend begins in Nungambakkam, Chennai with a lineup of exhibits, conversations, and sensorial experiences

News EventThe first-ever Madras Art Weekend (MAW) in Chennai has begun with a schedule of exhibitions, talks, and sensory experiences at The Park, Nungambakkam. The activities will continue till December 3. More than one hundred artists from Chennai and beyond will have their artwork on display, along with two foreign artists and a number of talks and workshops about creating interesting and inclusive art.
The city is hosting "The Moving Arc," an exhibition organised by Roobina Karode and including works of art from the 1940s that are being moved to the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art. Sutr Santati — Textiles of Tamil Nadu, an exhibition of textiles, will also be held at Raw Mango. It is organised by textile revivalists Lavina Baldota, Vipin Das, and Prabhu Viswanathan.
A live braille installation by Clarke Reynolds, a collection of sculptures made by students from the Mary Clubwala Jadhav School for the Deaf, and a collection of artworks created by fourteen different artists will all be on display on December 1 and 2 at Kairassi, a non-profit organisation that supports artists with disabilities.
Oliver Balhatchett, the British Deputy High Commissioner of Chennai, and his art-loving wife Raylsi Balhatchett will host "Spotlight on the South," an exhibition of works by established and up-and-coming Chennai artists, at their house.
