Kidathon 2023 held at Coimbatore; aimed at alerting the rise of Type 1 Diabetes cases in children

News EventThe Rotary E-Club of Metro Dynamix and Idhayangal Charitable Trust conducted "Kidathon 2023," a walkathon aimed at raising awareness of the crucial issue, in Coimbatore on Sunday in an effort to combat the surge in Type 1 Diabetes diagnoses in children under the age of 14 in India.
Over 700 youngsters under the age of fifteen participated in the walkathon, which was kicked off by District Collector Kranti Kumar Pati.
A countrywide survey conducted in 2022 by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) found that 15,000 new cases of Type 1 Diabetes in children under the age of 14 are recorded in India each year. Type 1 Diabetes can cause serious consequences that damage the kidneys, blood vessels, heart, eyes, nerves, and eyes if left untreated.
However, according to a press statement from the organisers, children diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes may enjoy normal, healthy, and full lives with prompt and appropriate treatment.
In addition, the club and the trust have launched a juvenile diabetes aid programme, with the club providing around ₹1 crore through fundraising and Corporate Social Responsibility efforts.
