IndiGo Airlines has announced the launch of daily direct flights connecting Chennai and Penang, set to begin on December 21, 2024. This will make Penang IndiGo’s third direct destination in Malaysia, joining Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi.
The airline stated that this new route is designed to cater to the growing demand for travel between Chennai and Penang, offering a smooth and affordable option for both business and leisure travellers. The direct service will reduce the travel time between the two cities from 7 hours to just 4. Additionally, IndiGo plans to resume flights between Bengaluru and Kuala Lumpur on the same date.
IndiGo pointed out that India is Malaysia’s fifth-largest source of tourists, and the new routes are expected to enhance economic and cultural ties between the two nations. By cutting down travel time between Chennai and Penang, the airline promises increased convenience for travellers. Chennai will also serve as a key hub for passengers from cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai travelling to Penang.
