News EventThe government of Himachal Pradesh's plan to host the first-ever Shimla Winter Carnival is anticipated to boost the travel and tourist industry, which has been severely impacted since last year's unrelenting monsoon drove the hill State to its knees and severely damaged both property and lives.
"With its goal of promoting tourism in the State, Shimla's winter funfair is a significant occasion for the city. At the festival's opening on Monday, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated, "The tourism industry in Himachal Pradesh has recovered from this setback due to the government's efforts." The recent monsoon fury had a negative impact on the industry. A cultural march and a Mahanati (traditional dance) performance by 450 women from self-help organisations kicked off the celebration.
"The State government has committed a considerable ₹3,000 crore budget to the tourist industry, up from the previous ₹50 crore, demonstrating its commitment to increasing tourism in the State. To better serve tourists, the government has allowed all eateries, dhabas, and food stores in the state to stay open 24 hours a day from December 20, 2023, until January 5, 2024," the chief minister continued.
In addition to local cuisine, laser displays, and other cultural events, the funfair also supports the celebration of Himachal Pradesh's rich cultural legacy.
