Airtel has launched Indias first network-based, AI-powered spam detection solution, to help reduce spam calls and messages

NewsThe first network-based, AI-powered spam detection solution in India, according to telecom behemoth Airtel, has been introduced to drastically lower spam calls and texts for its users. Users will receive real-time alerts about suspected spam calls and SMS messages thanks to an innovative solution from a national telecom operator.
Notably, there is no cost associated with this service, and it will be launched immediately for all Airtel users without requiring them to download an app or submit a service request.
The AI-powered solution was created internally by Airtel's data science team. It employs a proprietary algorithm to recognise and classify calls and SMS messages as "Suspected SPAM." Real-time analysis of many parameters, including caller or sender behaviour, SMS and call frequency, and call duration, is performed by the system.
This data is used to correctly indicate calls and texts that appear suspicious by matching it with known spam trends.
According to Airtel, the solution also warns users of dangerous links they may receive over SMS. The organisation has established a centralised database of prohibited URLs, and each SMS is instantaneously checked to alert clients before they inadvertently click on hazardous links.
In addition, the technology is able to identify anomalous activity, such as repeated IMEI number changes on a device—a common indicator of fraudulent activity. By using these security measures, Airtel hopes to provide its users with the best defence possible against the ever-growing threat of fraud and spam.
