News EventThis year's Nilgiris summer festival culminates in the 64th annual fruit exhibition, which was opened on Friday, May 24, 2024 by M. Aruna, the district collector for the Nilgiris.
A 15-foot-tall exhibit fashioned of grapes featuring the famous mythical ape "King Kong," who gained popularity in television series and films, was the show's main draw. More than 1.75 tonnes of grapes were used to make the show, according to the horticultural department.
According to officials, there were also additional exhibitions featuring fictional cartoon characters that were primarily meant to draw in small children. They also mentioned that 1.5 tons of lemons, grapes, oranges, and other fruits were used to make the displays.
The department of horticulture stated that a total of 150 different types of fruits are on display during the fruit show this year as the Sims Park in Coonoor, where it is hosted, marks 150 years since its creation.
This year, flowering plants were also provided to visitors to the fruit display. The three-day festival will conclude on Sunday, May 26, 2024, and will feature a number of cultural events.
