Kerala-produced Wayanad Robusta coffee was included at the Copenhagen, Denmark-based World of Coffee 2024, an event honouring coffee varieties worldwide.
The conference's enthusiastic reception of Kerala's coffee, which took place from June 27 to 29, according to Industries Minister P. Rajeeve, demonstrated that the state's distinctive coffee could find a global market. This marked the debut of Wayanad Robusta coffee on a global platform. The State government set up a booth, and about 2,500 individuals came in.
The World Coffee Conference in Bengaluru last year included a dedicated Wayanad coffee booth set up by the State Plantation department. The government was prompted to consider Wayanad coffee's wide global potential by the response they got. To capitalise on the industrial potential of coffee and market branded coffee from Wayanad, the government is coordinating a number of programmes, including Carbon Neutral Coffee Park, Climate Smart Coffee, and Kerala Coffee Limited.
In international coffee markets, the Wayanad Robusta coffee is relatively unknown. In order to address this issue, the government decided to take part in World of Coffee Copenhagen.
P.C. Vijayan, Sushena Devi, Director of Kerala Coffee Limited Jiva Anandan, and other Wayanad coffee growers headed the delegation lead by G. Balagopal, Head of Climate Smart Coffee Project.
Worldwide demand and pricing for robusta coffee are high.
