Vizhinjam International Seaport has obtained the ISPS Code certification from the International Maritime Organization
06 Apr 2024
NewsThe International Maritime Organisation (IMO), a specialised agency of the United Nations, has certified the port Vizhinjam International Seaport by the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, ahead of its planned launch. International ships are not allowed to operate to or from the port without this approval. Bulk carriers, other cargo ships, and high-speed freight are also covered by the permission.
The terrorist events of September 11, 2001, raised the possibility of similar catastrophes in marine transportation, which is why this code was initially designed. Every nation in the globe complies with the ISPS Code. By putting the code into practice, the likelihood of terrorist attacks is decreased, and marine transportation is made safer. Ports must undertake strict security measures to receive this accreditation.
