NewsDuring the fiscal year 2023–24, Visakhapatnam International Airport saw a 10.19 percent increase in passenger traffic over the 2022–2023 fiscal year. This occurred in spite of a decrease in the number of passengers between December 2023 and March 2024, which was clearly brought on by flight schedule disruptions as a result of runway resurfacing work.
In the fiscal year 2023–24, the airport handled a total of 27,84,428 passengers, up from 25,00,654 in the year prior. This is a 2,85,974 passenger growth. According to official records, growth would have been substantially higher if not for the airport's nighttime shutdown to enable runway resurfacing work.
Periodic resurfacing of the runway is necessary to guarantee passenger safety. Fortunately, the Navy finished the project earlier than expected, and on April 1 of this year, it was reported that the airport will be open 24/7.
The number of travelers using the airport for domestic travel fell precipitously in December, January, February, and March of 2024. Additionally, fewer foreign travelers used the airport in December, January, and February of 2024 than in March of the same year.
