NewsIn order to transform India's electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, Tata Motors and the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) have teamed up to form Tata Passenger Electric Mobility. Through the cooperation, chargers will be installed at sites that Tata EV owners commonly visit, utilizing HPCL's extensive fuel station network and TPEM's knowledge from over 1.2 lakh Tata EVs on Indian roads.
According to the release notes, HPCL will also collect data on charger usage in order to enhance the customer experience. Both businesses are thinking about introducing an easy-to-use payment system via a co-branded RFID card to promote the use of electric vehicles and make charging more straightforward. The company also hopes to help the growing number of EV buyers in India and establish electric cars as a common option for them.
By December 2024, HPCL, which has over 21,500 petrol stations around the country, hopes to have 5,000 electric vehicle charging stations installed. Across the nation, the business has so far set up 3,050 EV charging stations, including battery-swapping stations.
