Much-anticipated culinary hub Coimbatore Corporations Food Street planned to be opened in June

According to plans, the much awaited culinary hub near VOC Park will open in June once 80% of the construction on the Coimbatore Corporation's Food Street project has been completed. 

Beginning in October 2023, the Corporation and the Union government collaborated on a project that falls under the purview of the National Health Mission. Undertaken by Housing and Urban Development Minister S. Muthusamy, the initiative was initially scheduled for completion by March 2024. The Center and the Corporation are contributing equally to its funding.

According to organizers, there were currently up to 70 registered vendors and more than 40 small businesses on the Food Street. The effort aims to encourage nutritious eating habits and has been funded with ₹1 crore. It comprises infrastructure such as electricity connections, drinking water pipes, and roofs.

In addition, the structure features adjustable visitor seating, light fixtures, a shared handwashing facility, and platforms for vendors to run their operations.
