Krishi-Decision Support System was launched to revolutionize the way Indian farmers manage their crops

NewsBhagirath Choudhary, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, has introduced the Krishi-Decision Support System (Krishi-DSS), a geospatial platform that is based on satellite technology. The program offers real-time data on several important agricultural metrics, with the goal of revolutionizing the way Indian farmers manage their crops.
The first of its type in India, Krishi-DSS is designed with the agriculture industry in mind. A wide range of tools and data are available on the platform, such as satellite photos, meteorological data, reservoir storage, groundwater levels, and information on soil health. Farmers and other stakeholders may access the information at any time and from any location, which facilitates improved decision-making and more effective farming techniques.
The system has sophisticated crop mapping and monitoring components that support crop rotation, analyzing crop patterns, and sustainable agriculture.
As a prelude to the inaugural National Space Day on August 23, 2024, the launch occurred during the National Conference on Space-Driven Solutions for Agriculture Transformation in India.
The introduction of Krishi-DSS, which has the potential to greatly increase productivity and sustainability, represents a turning point in Indian agriculture.
The platform provides farmers with valuable insights on crop health, weather patterns, and soil conditions by combining data from multiple sources. These insights are essential for maximizing crop production and mitigating risks such as pest assaults and extreme weather occurrences.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled the larger Digital Public Infrastructure for Agriculture program in the 2023 budget, which includes the Krishi-DSS.
