NewsINS Jatayu, the Indian Navy's newest station, will contain radars, jetties, an airport, and BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, among many other things. The complex is being built on Minicoy Island in Lakshadweep. According to analysts and officials, the upgrading is a part of a long-term capacity development strategy that would strengthen India's security presence on the islands that are extremely near to vital Sea Lanes of Communication (SLOC).
This is particularly important because of the Chinese naval presence's rapid growth in the Indian Ocean, which includes "research vessels." Maldives is likewise only a few hundred kilometres away from Minicoy.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh dedicated additional facilities and infrastructure at the Karwar naval facility in Karnataka on Tuesday, in addition to INS Jatayu. These consist of two large piers, seven residential buildings housing 320 officers' residences and civilian defence personnel's homes, as well as 149 accommodations for lone officers.
