NewsGoogle and Bengaluru-based EV company ElectricPe have teamed up intending to give consumers access to real-time availability and status of EV charging stations by integrating EV charging station data into Google Maps. Through improved trip planning, the integration seeks to alleviate range anxiety among EV customers. The project is a part of Google's larger plan to update Google Maps with new features and enhance user experience in the face of increased competition from regional alternatives like Ola Maps.
In response to the unique requirements of Indian customers, the internet giant has released a number of new features on Google Maps. These include flyover callouts for improved navigation, AI-driven routing capabilities to avoid congested highways, and detailed information on EV charging stations. These features highlight Google's dedication to innovation and consumer comfort by making travels more sustainable and efficient.
An artificial intelligence (AI) model specifically designed for Indian roads by Google Maps estimates road widths using data from Street View, satellite photography, and other sources. This enables the app to recommend routes that stay away from congested areas without greatly lengthening travel times. Furthermore, the new flyover callout function will improve navigation for both two- and four-wheelers by assisting users in anticipating and preparing for impending flyovers.
Several Indian cities, including Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai, are getting these characteristics. The alliance is being announced at a time when India's EV sector is expected to see rapid expansion. By 2030, more than 5 million public charging stations are expected to exist in India, according to market research.
Avinash Sharma and Raghav Rohila founded ElectricPe in May 2021, and since then, the company has grown to become the largest public charger network in Bengaluru, with over 25,000 charges. Through its software, which also makes QR code reading and charging service payment easier, the business hopes to link customers with nearby charging stations.
