NewsThe Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has given the logistics business Delhivery, located in Gurugram, permission to launch a drone subsidiary. This comes after the business revealed its intentions to join the drone and freight air transport services markets in May 2024. "Delhivery Robotics India Private Limited" is the new company name.
The new Delhivery subsidiary will focus on a number of important projects. It will first carry out cutting edge research and development (R&D) in the field of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology in order to get type certification and proceed with commercialization.
Second, to help with freight movement and remote sensing activities, the subsidiary will provide Drone as a Service (DaaS).
Third, it intends to offer UAV Pilot Training, which entails obtaining licences from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for land operations as well as internal pilot certification.
Finally, the subsidiary will work on drone manufacturing. This will include procurement, integration, quality testing, and flight trials in addition to the manufacture and worldwide sales of UAVs and the outsourcing of the production of composite airframe components.
According to CEO Sahil Barua, Delhivery's portfolio firm Transition Robotics is leading the company's entry into the drone market. The company has created a fixed-wing drone that can transport a payload of around 4 kg over a 40 km distance.
