NewsThe first biometric-enabled self-bag drop facility in the nation has been established by Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) operator, Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL). Domestic DigiYatra customers travelling with Tata Group Airlines out of Terminal 2 may start the self-bag drop procedure by only scanning their faces., with this innovation. Domestic travellers no longer require an ID or boarding permit to navigate the airport thanks to DigiYatra's face-scan biometric technology.
The airport in Bengaluru has always been at the forefront of technical innovation. In an effort to improve passenger flow and shorten wait times, it piloted DigiYatra in 2019 and implemented a fully automated "self-bag drop" technology in 2018.
Passengers on DigiYatra can choose to "scan your face biometric for baggage drop" when utilising the self-bag drop service at the Bengaluru airport. After that, they'll be asked to select the "DigiYatra" symbol in order to continue. To take their biometric picture, the traveller will be instructed by the system to stare straight at the camera. The person will next be prompted to declare any dangerous products they may be carrying, and the flight information will be generated.
The system will tell the traveller to put their bag on the belt after this declaration is made. After that, it will ask them to affix a luggage tag, which they may print at a self-kiosk ahead of time or have the machine create one for them. A luggage receipt will be produced once the bag has been mechanically put into the baggage processing system, weighed, measured, and scanned.
Passengers with extra luggage will be escorted to a desk where payment can be made. But soon, customers will have the option to pay with UPI at the machines to pay for extra luggage right away. In order to start the self-bag drop procedure, passengers who would rather not employ biometrics can still scan their boarding card.
