NewsToday in Vijayawada, the Andhra Pradesh government will unveil the tallest statue of BR Ambedkar, the man credited with creating the Indian Constitution. The "Statue of Social Justice," which rises 206 feet above the earth, will rank among the world's 50 tallest sculptures; the highest statue is Sardar Vallabhai Patel's "Statue of Unity." The nearby state of Telangana is home to the second-tallest Ambedkar statue, at 175 feet tall.
The highest monument of Ambedkar outside of India was unveiled in Maryland, US, last year. The 19-foot-tall "Statue of Equality" was created by sculptor Ram Sutar, who was also responsible for creating the statue of Sardar Patel.
Features:
- Positioned on an 81-foot pedestal, the highest Ambedkar statue in the world measures 125 feet in height.
- The monument is situated on 18.81 acres of beautiful green parkland, and its construction cost ₹404.35 crore.
- The monument was constructed as part of a comprehensive "Made in India" effort, from sourcing raw materials to designing. The "Satue of Justice" required about 400 tonnes of steel to complete.
- Both the statue's immediate surroundings and the Swaraj Maidan, the site of its construction, have seen development. There were water features constructed in the courtyard, a three-sided periphery water body for the pedestal, and a melodic water feature.
- The property also features an 8,000-square-foot food court, a convention centre with 2,000 seats, a children's play area, and LED displays that have been put up to depict Ambedkar's life.
