Work on Chandigarh's first non-motorized transport green corridor commenced on Thursday

The ground-breaking ceremony for Chandigarh's first non-motorized transport (NMT) green corridor was conducted by UT advisor Dharam Pal on Thursday.

The 8-km corridor will extend along N-Choe from the north to the south of the city, connecting Sector 56 and Capitol Complex. Within nine months, the project will be finished.

The green corridor, which reserves a specific route solely for non-motorized transportation, is a significant step towards lowering carbon emissions and enhancing the general quality of life for city inhabitants. The initiative also seeks to provide a more accessible and safer environment for bicycles and pedestrians.

There will be a total of 11 NMT green corridors built in the city. The second NMT corridor's tender will be opened in July, and construction will start in August.
