NewsWork on a model one-room structure employing 3D printing technology began on Wednesday, at the Kerala State Nirmithi Kendra (Kesnik) campus in PTP Nagar. The demonstration structure is advertised as Kerala's first to use 3D printing technology. The demonstration project, which was officially opened by Revenue Minister K. Rajan, is being carried out by Chennai-based Tvasta, a construction tech start-up founded by a group of IIT-Madras graduates. Tvasta CEO Aditya V.S. expressed his company's delight at landing a project in Kerala.
Mr. Aditya stated that 3D printing technology in building ensured speedier construction, fewer waste and manpower requirements, and was cost-effective. The construction material was deposited layer by layer utilising a robotic arm in accordance with the three-dimensional digital model in 3D-printing structures.
Tvasta is building a 500-square-foot structure in Kesnik. Normally, a structure of this scale might be built in two days, but because it was a demonstration project with seminars, the construction took eight days, according to Tvasta authorities. Tvasta employs indigenously produced technology, with the exception of specific robotic arm components, which are imported since they are not accessible in India. Its innovative concrete mix has a specific binding material. The Revenue Minister emphasised the importance of bringing innovative cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and safe construction technology in Kerala. Mr. Rajan also reaffirmed his department's intention to establish a National Housing Park to promote affordable housing solutions. He stated that the administration was considering a housing programme.
MLA V.K. Prasanth presided. Febi Varghese, director of Kesnik, and other officials were there.
