Commuters can now check the real-time status of trains on the Western Railway's (WR) suburban network, which runs between Churchgate station in south Mumbai and Dahanu in the neighbouring Palghar district, thanks to a mobile application that was introduced on Wednesday. The "Yatri" app, according to the zonal railway, has a number of additional functions.
According to a press statement from Western Railway's top public relations officer, Ashok Kumar Misra, general manager of the company, the app was officially introduced in front of dignitaries and railway officials at Churchgate station concourse.
All of the suburban trains operated by the Western Railway have GPS monitoring devices, allowing the app to provide their current locations. Commuters will be able to get a train's real-time location on a map and watch it move with this app, according to Thakur, which was created in partnership with a private company.
"Commuters can see the live position in just three easy steps. In order to determine how close or far they are from the train and make travel plans, commuters can use the map to find the closest stations, enter the source station, and follow the train of their choice.
Commuters will receive accurate information, according to Thakur, about live train updates, announcements, the most recent timetable, maps of the main railway stops, and their amenities. Additionally, the software offers details on Mumbai Metro services and buses. It also has a part where users can provide feedback.
Additionally, essential railways and contact information for medical emergencies will be readily available to passengers. The app allows users to look up local tourist attractions and places to go close stations. The Western Railway claimed that the application is also divyangjan-friendly.
According to Thakur, Google Assistant makes it simple for Divyang commuters (people with disabilities) to locate their train in real time on their mobile device.
The Central Railway introduced live train monitoring through the app in July of last year.
