According to G. Satheesh Reddy, the president of the Aeronautical Society of India and a former scientific advisor to Raksha Mantri, Visakhapatnam would soon become a defence, marine, and aerospace powerhouse comparable to Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
In an interactive session hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on defence endeavours, Mr. Satheesh Reddy revealed that the Andhra Pradesh government has already received the blueprint for the proposed Defence and Maritime Industrial Park in Visakhapatnam. The park would include manufacturing units, R&D centres, deep ocean research facilities, testing labs, and spaces for technology transfer, skill development, and foreign OEMs. In order to hasten land purchase, the Centre has promised to assist through special funds and cooperation with relevant authorities.
The park concept received encouraging feedback from N. Yuvaraj, IAS, Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Government of Andhra Pradesh, who pledged to work with relevant authorities to find suitable land.
