Visakhapatnam Port Authority is the leading port in the country in the marine products export segment, according to MPEDA

According to the Marine goods Export Development Authority (MPEDA), Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) is the top port in the nation with a share of 26.36% in the marine goods export category. The port transported 2.64 lakh metric tonnes of marine goods valued at 16,877 crore in 2022–2023.18,832 metric tonnes of maritime goods totaling 1187.4 crores were also handled by another port, the Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Overall, the nation exported 17,35,286 metric tonnes of marine goods to various nations along the East and West coastlines, totaling 63,969.14 crore ($8.09 billion).

According to Visakhapatnam District Fisheries Department Joint Director G. Vijaya, the city boasts two ports right next to one another and a sizable fishing harbour. She stated that some of the factors contributing to Andhra Pradesh's leadership in seafood production and exports include the government's promotion of cultivation, high-quality goods, sanitary conditions in the packing regions, awareness campaigns, and training sessions. A high number of exporters of marine goods are situated in Andhra Pradesh, particularly in the vicinity of the Visakhapatnam port, according to Alluri Indra Kumar, regional president of the Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI) in Andhra Pradesh. Exporters from the nearby state of Odisha also chose the port of Vizag.

Frozen prawns from India continued to hold the top spot in the basket of seafood exports, accounting for a share of 40.98% in quantity and 67.72% of the total dollar profits with revenue of 43,135.58 crore ($ 5481.63 million). In terms of both number and value, frozen prawns continued to be India's top export, while the United States and China emerged as the country's top seafood importers in the most recent fiscal year.
