Visakhapatnam Port Authority has secured the third rank among all major ports in cargo handling

According to a press statement released by the port on September 14 (Thursday), the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has ranked third in cargo handling among all major ports.At a meeting on September 12, the Union Ministry of Ports examined the performance of the main ports for the period from April 2023 to July 2023, and ranks were assigned to the ports in accordance with those reviews, according to the statement.

Cargo volume, pre-berthing detention (PBD) time, turnover time (TRT), output per ship berth day (OSBD), and idle time at berth were reviewed as important performance indicators. All of these metrics showed success for the Visakhapatnam Port. 

According to the press statement, the port handled 33.14 million tonnes during the period, which represented an increase of 3% in cargo volume, 65% in PBD, 16% in TRT, 14% in OSBD, and 4% in idle time at berth compared to the same period last year.
