World Space Week (WSW 2023) will be celebrated in the State capital by units of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), including sounding rocket launches, a quiz, workshops on space-related topics, and different public outreach events. WSW is observed annually from October 4 to October 10 to honour the launch of Sputnik, the first artificial satellite, on October 4, 1957, and the entry into force of the Outer Space Treaty on October 10, 1967. "Space and Entrepreneurship" is the focus of WSW 2023. The ISRO Inertial Systems Unit (IISU), the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), and the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) jointly arrange WSW activities here.
On September 30, an all-Kerala inter-school quiz with the topic "Space" will have its online web-based preliminary round. On October 7, the final rounds will take place at the VSSC.On October 7, a Citizen Familiarisation Programme will be held for Keralans over the age of 55. The chosen individuals will experience the launch of a sounding rocket, go to the space museum, and talk with ISRO experts.<p>For students and the general public, WSW will host an Open House. </p>On October 6 and 7, special launches of the Rohini class sounding rockets will take place at 11.45 a.m. Throughout the week-long event, the ISRO scientists will provide lectures on space-related topics in an effort to engage the student community.
In a one-day workshop on "Space and Entrepreneurship," the VSSC, LPSC, IISU, and the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) will collaborate. Invited speakers from the ISRO, Kerala Space Park, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), and successful start-ups are included in the sessions.
