NewsWork on the development of a Heritage Park on Butterworth Road near Rockfort to highlight Tiruchi culture and history has entered its final phases, and it is expected to open by the end of this month. The park, which is being developed on 1.27 acres of land that was formerly used as a horse stable, is being funded by the Smart Cities Mission and will cost around 6 crore. The stable's archway has been preserved and serves as the park's main entrance.
Despite the fact that civil work on the park began in December 2019, the project has been delayed over its anticipated completion date of December 2020 owing to the COVID-19 lockout and a delay in obtaining statuary from the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation (Poompuhar). However, the work is nearing completion and will be finished this month. The edutainment park will feature mural paintings, monuments, and plaques depicting the city's colourful history over the decades. It will also have sculptures of ancient monarchs, such as Rani Mangammal, Karikala Cholan, and Raja Raja Cholan, as well as thorough explanations of bygone times and significant sites.
The Heritage Park's attractions include a stone-carved arch entry, a children's play area, an outdoor gym, a walking track, a huge herbal garden with medicinal plants and roses, landscaping and water fountains, and an amphitheatre where cultural events can be hosted. Aside from the distinctive features, the park will contain toilets, drinking water facilities, a parking space for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, and security cameras for visitor safety.
