The interiors of the new Parliament will be displaying art installations curated from different parts of the country

In an effort to showcase India's vast variety, the interiors of the new Parliament, which will be opened this weekend, will have art installations chosen from throughout the nation.

According to officials with knowledge of the situation who declined to be identified, these installations would be displayed in the galleries of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha as well as six ceremonial entrances and public access routes.

They added that animals revered in various parts of the country will be featured in these gateway installations such as the Garud (eagle), Gaj (elephant), Ashva (horse), and Maggar (crocodile).

The proposal includes three Indian galleries, each of which is intended to depict the history of the nation in chronological order, leading up to the momentous occasion of the formation of the Constitution of India. One of the executives remarked, "Each piece of artwork will narrate a thousand stories," adding that artists from all throughout the nation "worked collaboratively to bring these tales to life."

There will be two large brass murals that are each 75 feet tall. The work was motivated by a representation of the incident at Cambodia's Angkor Wat temple complex. One would capture India's rich tradition and culture, while the other will provide a narrative of the legendary tale of "Samudra Manthan" (the churning of the ocean).

Advaita Gadanayak, a former director-general of the National Gallery of Modern Art, asserted that Parliament House need aesthetically represent both the nation's past and its place in the twenty-first century.

The artwork at the new Parliament is the result of work by nearly 75 artists and academics who were brought together by the ministry of culture to develop a narrative for these distinctive installations. Themes for each hall were painstakingly considered, according to the first-cited officials.

The duty of creating a concept for the artwork for Parliament was given to the Parliament Art Advisory Committee when it was established in February 2022. The committee conceptualised the aesthetic language for each gallery, chose themes, chose local artists and works of art, and oversaw the creation and placement of the pieces.
