NewsThe Indian Medical Association and the Trained Nurses Association of India were jointly granted the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament, and Development 2022 on November 19, in recognition of the nation's COVID-19 fighters. The award was given to Dr. Sharad Kumar Agarwal, president of the Indian Medical Association, and Professor (Dr.) Roy K. George, president of the Trained Nurses Association of India by former vice president Hamid Ansari.
The Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust's chairman, Sonia Gandhi of the Congress Parliamentary Party, remarked that all medical professionals, nurses, paramedics, and karamcharis should get this award for their selfless devotion, unwavering dedication, and tenacity in the face of hardship.
According to Ms. Gandhi, the award was created in commemoration of one of the most notable figures in twentieth-century leadership and is intended to recognise individuals, groups, and organisations that have made outstanding contributions to the betterment of society and the environment.
According to Ms. Gandhi, "the prize aims to promote the causes that Indiraji herself championed and worked for in her astonishing career." The Congress leader went on to say that Indira Gandhi's life would be remembered for her extraordinary capacity to overcome adversity.
Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Shivraj Patil, and others were present.
