The Greater Visakhaptnam Municipal Corporation is going to introduce battery operated autorickshaws to ferry tourists to encourage eco-friendly mode of transportation

The Greater Visakhaptnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) will install battery-operated autorickshaws to carry visitors here in an effort to promote eco-friendly modes of transportation. The beach length between Naval Coastal Battery and Bheemunipatnam will have these autorickshaws stationed there. Starting on July 1, around 15 e-autorickshaws will be used along the beach stretch as part of the first phase.

Despite several recommendations from the municipal corporation and the tourism department to run e-autorickshaws as a form of transportation, nothing came to pass. The passenger e-autorickshaws are going to be a reality as part of the Eco-Vizag programme, which was just launched by the GVMC.

According to GVMC Commissioner C.M. Saikanth Varma, 65 autorickshaws would be employed for residential rubbish collection in addition to the 15 autorickshaws that will be used for public transportation along Beach Road. According to him, the primary goal is to combat pollution, which is a part of the continuing "Eco Vizag" programme.

Officials from GVMC state that a fare schedule has not yet been set. Additionally, it was discovered that these cars will cost less than typical autorickshaw services. The GVMC considers increasing the number and introducing them in more locations based on the reaction.

In addition, the corporation is building a smart bus stop near the NTR Statue at R.K. Beach that will be similar to the one that was built outside the Andhra University Out Gate on the Siripuram-Chinna Waltair route. Along with announcement equipment, the bus stop will include adequate seats, attractive lighting, an LED board that will identify the buses operating on the route and display their schedules, as well as other amenities. The NTR Statue's current bus stop has already been removed, and construction work has already started. The GVMC will install a second smart bus stop at this location.
