NewsThe first "Rupee Store" has been opened by Municipal Corporation Chandigarh (MCC) authorities in an effort to spread the 3R philosophy of reduce, reuse, and recycle while also using the things gathered to aid the city's less fortunate residents. The city's first "Rupee Store," according to the officials, intends to promote the 3R philosophy and aid those in need. According to the authorities, any item may be purchased for Rs 1 here, including briefcases, suits for women and shirts and pants for men.
"With the mantra of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle at the RRR centre, reusable items have been made available to the needy people in the villages and colony areas of the city," stated Mayor Anup Gupta in his remarks on the occasion.
He said that the MCC has opened a permanent RRR centre at the New Bridge Market, close to the Jagat theatre, in Sector 17, where residents may bring their useful things to donate after temporary RRR facilities were established in each of the city's 35 wards. The RRR centres, according to him, have received a lot of outdated books and textbooks that would be very helpful to students in need and those in the slums and other places.
According to MCC Commissioner Anindita Mitra, the RRR facilities set the path for sustainability in metropolitan areas by recycling products including electronics, clothing, old books, shoes, and furniture as well as upscaling used goods. She said, purchasing secondhand clothing and other items as well as donating to RRR facilities both prevent these items from ending up in landfills.
According to the commissioner, the urban sanitation ecosystem shifted towards reduce, reuse, and recycle centres, or RRR Centres. She said, "Thousands of citizens participated in these mega collection drives to deposit old, unused goods, setting up 35 RRR Centres across the city and one permanent centre in sector 17." According to the commissioner, "the recently built Rupee stores at Mauli Jagran and Maloya are not only drawing passionate crowds eager to buy used items, old books, shoes, clothing, and toys for just Re 1, but are also encapsulating the ethos of jan andolan. She added that the 'Meri LiFE, Mera Swachh Shehar' campaign's opening of permanent RRR centres and Rupee Store selling centres in the city demonstrated the enthusiasm for swachhata and conscientious attempt to save resources.
