NewsAnticipated to open in January 2024, Chendamangalam, close to North Paravur, will host the first phase of the much-anticipated Integrated Handloom Village. In addition to serving as a hub for individuals eager to connect with the artists and craftspeople of Kerala, who tirelessly carry on a rich legacy, the Handloom Village aims to present the state's extensive history and customs of handweaving.
Along with ₹5.50 crore allocated for the development of value-added goods and modernization of handloom societies, the State Budget for 202–23 included ₹10 crore for the Integrated Handloom Village initiative. The Directorate of Handloom and Textiles is in charge of completing the project.
The project's initial phase is expected to cost ₹19 crore. The manufacturing and sales centre, the exhibition centre, and the design center—which will serve as the focal point of the Integrated Handloom Village project—will all be included in this phase. According to sources, the first phase's roofing project was already finished.
The project's second phase will include an amphitheatre and a museum devoted to the handloom sector. According to reports, the project would take up more than 1.5 acres, and there will be enough room for all the amenities shown in the plan.
