NewsThe Palakkad Division of Southern Railway has embraced contemporary technologies to guarantee thorough cleaning of station premises within its purview in compliance with the Swachh Bharath Mission. According to a statement, the programme, which was started almost ten years ago, encompasses 89 main and small stations in the division and has a well-established system that is regularly inspected by higher authorities. As a result, the division claimed, the stations appear more modern and tidy, improving passenger comfort.
Fifteen significant stations have achieved ISO 14001:2005 accreditation for their environmental management systems, according to the press announcement, proving the division's dedication to upholding the strictest hygiene standards. The stations are constantly kept clean thanks to high-tech cleaning equipment, superior disinfectants, and compliance with waste management guidelines established by the State Pollution Control Boards and the National Green Tribunal. The division has implemented waste segregation to separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes as soon as the wastes are collected, with regard to trash collection and disposal. Wastes that are not biodegradable are separated into several categories and then given to approved recyclers. According to the statement, the majority of the main stations also include plastic bottle crusher facilities.
With specifically generated imprest currency, the Railway Administration closely monitors all 89 stations at the Divisional level. Tender quotes, which are periodically refreshed, are used to award cleaning services. Close observation guarantees that every station upholds the highest standards of hygiene, supporting the government's cleaning programmes and the larger Swachh Bharat Mission.
