NewsK.T. Rama Rao, the minister for municipal administration and urban development, on Monday (June 26) officially launched the much-awaited skywalk at the Uppal intersection. The skywalk will provide pedestrians at one of the busiest intersections in the city with much-needed reprieve.
On the same day, the Minister also opened a multifunctional conference hall at the small shilparamam next to Uppal Bagayat layout.
The skywalk, the first facility of its kind in the city and the state, was undertaken by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) at an estimated cost of 25 crore. In addition to connecting with the Metro Rail station at the concourse level on both sides, it links six destinations in the vicinity of the junction. At each of the six hop stations in the 660-meter-long pedestrian facility, there are stairs and elevators.
After the launch, Mr. Rama Rao spoke at a public gathering on the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government's accomplishments over the previous nine years in various areas and the contribution of the Uppal constituency to the progress. He blamed the Central government's negligence for the elevated corridor between Ramantapur and Uppal moving so slowly.
