On the occasion of World Water Day, river lovers in Agra participated in the River Connect campaign, headed by environmentalist and social activist Braj Khandelwal, by performing aarti and cleaning the Yamuna.
Despite the government's assurance to the people under the 'Yamuna Action Plan' that cleaning arrangements would be made at the site on a regular basis, the Yamuna Aarti site has been littered with filth for a long time. Hence, on the occasion of 'World Water Day,' River Connect campaign has begun a cleaning initiative of the Yamuna Aarti site at the river view point.
Khandelwal stated that Yamuna river supporters have drawn the attention of the central and state governments through this campaign by passing a resolution for the formulation of a national river policy, Yamuna purification, barrage construction, and uninterrupted water flow.
River Connect Campaign has been organising Yamuna's Aarti program for the past seven years. The goal is to raise awareness about the Yamuna and restore the river's original form.
