NewsThe second Voice of Global South Summit will be opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 17. Almost a year has passed since India held the first Voice of the Global South Summit. 125 Global South nations participated in the first virtual summit, which was dominated by the conflict in Ukraine. However, it is anticipated that the next virtual summit would reflect the growing concerns over the Israeli military's role in the Gaza Strip. At the UN General Assembly on October 26, almost all nations voted in support of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, with India abstaining. This will also represent India's changing relationship with the bloc of Global South nations.
The summit will be divided into ten segments, with the heads of state and government only attending the first and last sessions. The opening session, with the theme "Together, for Everyone's Growth, with Everyone's Trust," will be opened by Mr. Modi. Although the main topic of discussion during the summit will be India's G-20 presidency, it's also likely that the Israeli war in Gaza will come up.
The difficulties brought forth by world events are probably going to be covered as well. In addition, the summit will provide a forum for talking about how to maintain the momentum created by our shared goal of a more progressive, inclusive, and representative global order, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs.
The foreign ministers, ministers of education, ministers of energy, and ministers of commerce of the Global South's member nations will all participate in various summit parts. As per the MEA, "India has endeavoured to guarantee that the issues and concerns of the Global South are given appropriate consideration and that their priorities are appropriately taken into account when devising solutions for the most critical global challenges during its G-20 Presidency."
