Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposes naming the old Parliament building as 'Samvidhan Sadan' on Tuesday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recommended renaming the existing Parliament building as "Samvidhan Sadan”, on Tuesday, after both Houses moved to the new building, He said that calling the structure that has housed Parliament meetings for the past 75 years the "old building" would diminish its dignity. Referring to the building as 'Samvidhan Sadan' would be a tribute to the leaders who made history in Parliament, as per the PM.

Prior to the move to the new structure, PM Modi was giving a speech in the Central Hall of the Parliament. The change was made on Tuesday, Ganesh Chaturthi, the second day of the five-day special session of Parliament.

PM Modi and all the MPs moved from the old building to the new structure shortly after his address. On the first day of the new Parliament building, each MP was given a gift bag comprising a copy of the Constitution, literature on the Parliament, a commemorative coin, and a stamp.
