Pondicherry University opens a green campus office to plan and coordinate initiatives to preserve and replenish natural resources

NewsA "green campus" office has been established by Pondicherry University to organise and manage campaigns aimed at protecting and restoring the environment's natural resources. The office's objectives include expediting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and altering the perspectives of stakeholders, academics, and students about climate and environmental sustainability, according to a press release from Pondicherry University.
The University's Vice-Chancellor, Gurmeet Singh, launched the office. According to the University, it will also run activities in line with the UGC Quality Mandate to address the climate problem and protect the natural resources on campus and in the surrounding area.
The alumni worked together to build up the facility.
In order to foster environmentally conscious behaviour and accelerate SDG adoption, In addition to encouraging a shift in mindset among students and stakeholders, M. Nandhivarman, coordinator of Green Campus, stated that the office will function on four main tenets: environmental justice, fundamental duties outlined by the Constitution, tipping theory (doing the good instead of stopping the bad), and identifying easily achievable actions for the protection and conservation of natural resources.
Additionally, the office will benefit the university greatly in a number of obvious ways, including by increasing awareness of the climate crisis and sustainable development, providing training and capacity building for pertinent stakeholders, mentoring students, and establishing connections with the real world. All of these efforts will help the university's stakeholders become more globally prepared.
At the launch celebration, faculty members, authorities, and students were joined by Tharanikkarasu, Director of Studies; Rajeev Jain, Director of Culture; and Chandhrika.
