NewsA few hours after the inauguration of the new parliament building on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi honoured 11 workers who contributed to its development and construction by giving them traditional shawls and souvenirs. The expansive structure, which spans 64,500 square metres, was developed over the course of nearly three years with interaction from the Prime Minister and the employees.
"Today, as we inaugurate the new building of our Parliament, we honour the shramiks (workers) for their tireless dedication and craftsmanship," Modi tweeted after the ceremony.
The prime minister stated that 60,000 people were employed throughout the enormous complex's development and added that a digital gallery honouring them has also been constructed in the complex during his remarks at the building's opening. The massive exercise, which started in December 2020 as part of the Central Vista redevelopment plan, involves thousands of people.
Satyaranjan Das from West Bengal, who used to organise water and food for the workers at the building site, was one of the employees present at the ceremony on Sunday. Ajaz Ahmed, a supervisor, and Uranjan Dalai, who organised tea and water for the employees, stood next to him.
According to those with knowledge of the situation, Subrata Sutradhar built the bamboo floors within the complex. Muzaffar Khan from Jharkhand, Dharmendra from Delhi, who worked as a gas welder, and Anand Vishwakarma from Varanasi, who worked on the ceilings of the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha and installed chairs in the new complex, are the other workers who were present on Saturday.
