Platform screen doors to be installed on two important elevated stretches of Chennai Metro Rails phase II project

The installation of platform screen doors for improved passenger protection on two significant elevated sections of the planned Chennai Metro Rail phase II project has been awarded to ST Engineering Urban Solutions Limited.

In the phase I project, platform screen doors were added as a safety measure exclusively to the subterranean stations. They not only prevented people from entering the platforms but also reduced electricity usage since during the day, conditioned air would not enter the tunnel. In the ₹61,843-crore phase II project, which is being built over 116 km in the city, this capability will now be extended to elevated parts also in order to increase passenger safety and prevent passengers from entering the track.

Integration tests will be performed after they have been rectified to make sure the doors open in time with the train doors. The source said that it will continue for around eight or nine months.
