Mangani (mango) festival preparations have begun by the Karaikal district government and will commence on June 30. Every year, the event is lavishly observed in Karaikal in honour of Karaikal Ammaiyar, the only female of the 63 Nayanmars of Saivism. Sri Nithya Kalyana Perumal Devasthanam, a month-long celebration put on by the Sri Kailasanathar Swamy Temple, begins on June 30 and lasts until August 1.
On July 2, the Mangani festival will take place after celebrations like Paramathathar Azhaippu and Thirukkalyanam, during which worshippers will throw ripe mangoes from the tops of buildings as the Pichandavar utsavar deity is carried out in a parade through the streets. For worshippers and vendors to set up stalls, temporary structures are being built in front of the Karaikal Ammaiyar shrine on Bharathiyar Street. The paintings on the god idols that will be carried in procession with the processional deity have been finished by the temple management.
In order to preserve hygiene, the municipal government has increased its efforts to guarantee cleanliness surrounding the temple. To avoid traffic jams, two designated parking facilities have been built. Manish, a senior superintendent of police in Karaikal, went to the temple to assess the festival's security plans.
