Major reforms to the Class X and XII examination system to be brought ABOUT BY Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board

Major changes will be made to the Class X and XII examination system, according to the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB). While the idea of a supplemental test has been abandoned, it has been replaced with a three-times-per-year yearly exam starting in the academic year 2023–2024. This was disclosed during the Teachers' Day function on Tuesday in Bengaluru by Madhu Bangarappa, Minister for the Department of School Education and Literacy.

By designating the extra test as the yearly examinations 1, 2, and 3, students will have three opportunities to improve their overall performance and attitude. This is an improvement over the recent National Curriculum Framework suggestion, which called for the creation of two board exams. Beginning in the March/April, 2023, the three-year exam system will be used.

Under the current system, students take one yearly test, one optional supplement for Class X, and two optional supplements for Class XII. From this point forward, there will be no such thing as a supplemental test, and students who are dissatisfied with their performance in the first exam will be able to improve it by sitting for the second and third exams.

Exam 1 is required of all regular students, whereas exams 2 and 3 are available to repeaters and private applicants.

Even if students write the same topics in various tests, the best three exam results will be used to determine the final grade. On the scorecard, however, the exam will not be mentioned.

As per Ramachandran R., chairman of the KSEAB, a student who has completed Class XII, at the moment, has the option to reject the marks they received in a particular subject and retake the test if they are dissatisfied with their performance in that subject. However, the only marks taken into account for the final grade are those from the extra test. This approach is unfriendly to students since they are unable to maintain the mark that represents their greatest performance out of the two exam results. If we use the new test method, it will provide us the chance to raise our score by keeping the top marks from the first, second and third exams, and it will give us greater chances during the hiring process for more education or work.

He stated that the practise of having one annual exam and one supplemental exam is making pupils more stressed and anxious. This hinders the student's ability to retain knowledge, engage in meaningful learning, and advance academically. Exams 1, 2, and 3 can be administered to students to assist them adjust to their learning speed and lessen the stress brought on by time limitations. Each student has a unique learning style and pace.

Mr. Ramachandran said that the board will release a circular outlining specific instructions for students on the changed test procedure. "The question papers for these three exams will be consistent in terms of substance and degree of difficulty. Students will be given the chance to select the best score out of the marks they received in these three tries, topic by subject. To make up for the missing courses in the first month, late enrollees in the following academic term will be given a "bridge course," which may be a class XI or undergraduate course.
