NewsThe Madurai Metro Rail project, which will connect Tirumangalam and Othakadai, would include 27 metro stations, one for every kilometre on the elevated structure and one for every 1.5 km in the underground structure, according to Chennai Metro Rail Managing Director M.A. Siddique on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. He was speaking to reporters at the Madurai Collectorate after a meeting with officials from several departments on the project. He stated that the detailed project report (DPR) for both the Madurai and Coimbatore metro projects would be completed shortly and submitted to the government on July 15.
He assuaged concerns that the proposed metro line and stop near the temple would not disrupt heritage buildings or temple automobile processions. The project will commence when the DPR is presented to the government, approval from the Centre is secured, and money is allocated, he added. He estimated that the raised structure (27 km) would take 3.6 years to build, and the underground section (5 km) would take 4.6 years. The officials performed a field investigation of different locations across the city where the project will be executed.
The meeting was attended by Collector M.S. Sangeetha, Chennai Metro Rail Director (Projects) T. Archunan, Corporation Commissioner K.J. Praveen Kumar, District Revenue Officer R. Sakthivel, and other government officials.
